New Year’s Micro-goals

Tomorrow is NYE and over the last couple weeks I have been writing and rewriting my goals for the New Year. After the first couple of times I wrote my goals I didn’t feel confident in those goals. Maybe there were too many goals I created for myself or maybe they were too big of goals. After dissecting these goals and asking myself “how do I plan on achieving them?” I got overwhelmed. I realized I needed to break them down a bit more and create micro goals.

Micro goals are super specific everyday goals that lead you to achieve those larger goals.

Large goal= get toned and in shape

Micro goal= cardio 2-3 days a week and at home work outs 2-3 times a week

By setting micro goals you are are setting yourself up for success. I find it to be overwhelming and almost a let down when you set up too many large goals all at once. I like step by step guides to everything, including goals, projects, etc.

Some of my micro goals for the New Year:

  • wake up 30 minutes before Kenny (ideally 6am)
  • be in bed by 9:30pm (4 days a week)
  • batch work 2-3 days a week
  • utilize phone time during Kenny’s nap, before he wakes up in the AM and at night when he’s asleep or when I have help watching him
  • dedicate Sunday or Monday for meal prepping 5 days worth
  • Sundays are for washing all bedding in the house
  • Drink 1 glass of water firs thing in the morning
  • use my planner and wall calendar consistently for reminders
  • potty train Kenny by March
  • do not buy any clothing/shoe items until Spring
  • Eliminating toxic household cleaners and products in our home
  • create a list of  home projects with detail specific tasks

Those are just some of my micro goals šŸ™‚

When you write your goals down, where do you write them? In a notebook? On a chart? Somewhere hidden? Somewhere out in the open? I understand goals can be personal but I believe that in order to achieve your goals sooner, they need to be somewhere visible. Maybe thats on a piece of paper in your nightstand where you can check back every night to see if you’re getting closer to achieving your goal. For others, maybe your goals are visible for everyone to see (somewhere like on a fridge) so that you can look at them every day and keep aiming for your goals.

Whatever works best for you, do it. Make sure you stay consistent and check back on your goal list VERY frequently. If you’re a planner like me, put your top 1 or 3 micro goals at the top of your planner that you would like to focus on for the week or month.

I’ve been making goals for myself since I was in 1st grade and every year I find new and improved ways to help me achieve my goals better or sooner. If you have any questions on how you can reach a goal or just need help getting started please reach out to me! I would absolutely love to help you get started on goal setting or help you figure out how to achieve a specific goal of yours.
